Rob graduated from Marquette University with a Masters in physical therapy. He has over 14 years of experience as a physical therapist working with individuals with various ages and levels of disability. He currently teaches continuing education nationally for other healthcare professionals, construction & design professionals, and persons interested in accessible solutions. He has instructed hundreds of professionals in accessible & universal design. He has attended national conferences and seminars on remodeling and accessible solutions for homes, businesses, churches, and for the community. He is one of the most credentialed accessibility consultants in the country, with certification through Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation, Certified Environmental Access Consultant (CEAC), and U.S.C. Executive Certificate in Home Modifications (ECHM) certificate.
Joe Caravella, CAPS – Project Manager/co-owner
Joe, a graduate of Marquette University, has over 20 years of experience in the remodeling industry. Joe is owner of Caravella Paintworks, LLC – a company that has demonstrated some of the finest workmanship and finishing work in the Milwaukee and Chicago areas. Joe is committed to quality craftsmanship, integrity, and customer service which has contributed to his stellar reputation. Joe has also attended training conferences on aging in place and accessible remodeling. Joe is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), and has attended numerous conferences such as the Kitchen and Bath industry Show, and International Homebuilders Show for the latest products for your home remodeling needs.
Edward Still – Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Ed received his bachelor of arts in business admin from Ottawa University. He has 10 years of management experience and 11 years of sales experience which underlies his commitment to seamless communication and quality customer service. Edward believes in providing superior customer experience by going above and beyond expectations. He has excelled in the field of accessibility and a passion particularly for serving individuals with disabilities and those striving to remain at home as long as possible. He has been factory trained and certified through Prism Medical as a specialist in patient transfer lift technology. Edward prides himself in building long term relationships with his clients and their families, working closely with our therapists, designers, and tradesmen to meet their needs.
Melissa Lydecker – Accessibility Consultant
Melissa graduated from Marquette University with a Master’s in Physical Therapy in 2003. She has worked as a PT in both IL and WI, primarily treating the geriatric population and those who have suffered a neurologic insult. Melissa has a passion for home modification and accessibility, to keep individuals in their homes throughout their disease process and aging. She values the importance of maintaining an individuals’ dignity and allowing them to remain mobile in an accessible and aesthetically pleasing environment. Melissa has attended continuing education opportunities that focus on aging in place. She has most recently begun leading Stepping On workshops in Milwaukee; an evidence based program that focuses on fall prevention and improving confidence of community dwelling individuals. Melissa is committed to building a strong relationship with her clients and understanding the physical and emotional needs that people develop in creating their home.
Brian Drew, ASID – Interior Designer/Project Manager
Brian has a bachelor degree in psychology and human development, with additional background in painting, finish work, landscape design and color theory. He trained in environmental psychology looking at how people are affected by their home and work environments. Brian has an associate’s degree in interior design and worked for 4 years for Peabody’s Interiors, one of the finest design firms in the Midwest. Brian has provided interior design work throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. He describes his main design philosophy as modern with a focus on simplicity and symmetry, however he has worked with clients in all types of design aesthetics. Brian is ASID affiliated and summarizes his approach saying, “I always tell people that while I will always have opinions and a view on what I think the end product should be, my job is to make their home work for them. I don’t live there, so in the end I will do what I can to put the very best things in their home to make it work for them, and look great at the same time.”
Katie Horkheimer, OTR – Accessibility Specialist
Katie graduated from Mount Mary college with a professional degree in occupational therapy*. Katie has worked since 2001 as a registered and licensed occupational therapist*. Katie’s primary experience has been with rehabilitation of children with disabilities with her work as a rehab therapist at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, though she has experience with persons of all ages. Katie has undergone numerous continuing education opportunities and training programs for accessible design as well as aging in place. She has done extensive research in accessible remodeling and home modifications and is passionate, meticulous, and dedicated to accessible design for persons of all ages and needs.
Luther King, OTR/L, CAPS – Accessibility Specialist
Luther graduated from Chicago State University with a Masters in Occupational Therapy. He has over 5 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist working with individuals with various disabilities primarily in the geriatric population at various levels of care. Luther recently attained his Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation. Luther is currently attending Governors State University to attain his Doctorate in Occupational Therapy where he plans to use his knowledge to provide evidence based research on the importance of home modifications. Luther is passionate about assisting individuals to achieve independence, safety and comfort in the home and has completed extensive study in the field of home modifications.
Our organization values continued education and learning and regularly attend industry educational seminars, trade shows and conferences. We hold memberships in NARI – the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, the BBB – Better Business Bureau, AHIA – Accessible Home Improvements of America, Answers for Elders, and have attended industry leading conference including: The International Homebuilder’s Show, National Kitchen and Bath Industry show, the Abilities Expo, Medtrade, and more. We do this to remain current and ensure that we are providing the most current and practical solutions that will help you to achieve and remain independent in your home. We are National Educators and instructors who offer training to professionals both locally, to Universities, and Nationally to medical professionals, persons with disabilities, and other Accessibility Professional Consultants on the latest and best strategies for good accessible designs.
*Though BILD members do have a medical background we do not provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, or medical services to our clients.
